Greetings, Twisted Souls Press Community!
In our realm of ink and shadows, we’ve always been more than just a publishing company. At Twisted Souls Press, we don’t just talk about change; we actively make it happen. We’ve walked the author’s path, witnessing the challenges firsthand, even in the era of self-publishing accessibility.
📘 Our Why: We are “author makes more” focused. It means putting in extra effort on our end to ensure authors reap the rewards they deserve. While we might not churn out as many books as other publishers, the ones we do publish receive more attention and support they need for the long haul.
💡 Beyond Boundaries: Our commitment extends beyond our own walls. We’ve forged connections with other publishers and platforms to simplify marketing and promotion, making it more cost-effective for our authors. We expanded our accepted genres to embrace all forms of “dark fiction,” opening our doors wider to help more authors find their place.
🌿 Roots in Change: Twisted Souls Press came to be because there were things our founder, Christy Mann, wanted to do with her books, but wasn’t able to, but she didn’t know she couldn’t until she tried it. She dug into learning how the dynamic parts of the publishing industry worked, and didn’t. Publishing her books on every possible platform, and frequently, was her goal to discover and work through every possible glitch, hiccup, and obstacle to publishing an author could encounter, and how she got through or around them. More often than not, it meant creating something that worked differently than all the other platforms and publishers do it, and have been doing it for years.
How it has been done has led to tremendous success for everyone who touches a book during the production process, while the author’s themselves make pennies per copy. If authors understood why that happened, it might be a different story, but most don’t. They aren’t taught, they find out as as they go, and the rest of the industry takes advantage of that, and that is the root of the problem. It becomes all of them against the author, when an author tries to change it so they make better.
Twisted Souls Press became the space where she shares what she learns and provides services that help others work with or around them, so they too can achieve their dreams however they want to do it. Now it actively advocates for change also.
📚 The Next Chapter: Now, an opportunity rooted in her Pagan connections beckons us to take another significant step in reshaping the industry so the authors that create things that produce income for everyone else, begins coming back to them more and more. We’re on a mission to make Pagan Fiction its own genre across all the platforms, giving authors the power to classify their work uniquely so they stand among the standard genres rather than get swallowed up by them as sub-categories and sub-categories of sub-categories. We’ve dug into it to see what it will take to get it done. It is not going to be a simple process, we can’t just send and email to Ingram Spark or KDP and use our leverage as a bookstore and book publisher, and we aren’t going to be able to do it alone.
Why This Matters: This mission is not of our own creation. We met the author, Christopher Goben, recently. When he introduced himself he confidently stated that he is an author of Pagan Fiction. As a publisher, we know that Pagan Fiction is not a standard genre, so we got to talk to him about it and came to believe that it’s a mantle worth taking up with him for a few reasons.
- Cultural Harmony and Understanding: Recognizing Pagan Fiction as a genre fosters cultural harmony and understanding by showcasing diverse spiritual beliefs. This contributes to a more tolerant and accepting society that celebrates the richness of various cultural perspectives.
- Empowerment of Marginalized Voices: The acknowledgment of Pagan Fiction empowers marginalized voices, providing a platform for unique perspectives often overlooked in mainstream genres. This contributes to a more inclusive representation of diverse human experiences in literature and beyond.
- Catalyst for Positive Societal Shift: Recognizing Pagan Fiction serves as a catalyst for a positive shift in societal attitudes, inspiring openness, and dialogue about spirituality. This cultural shift extends beyond literature, influencing how society values and respects diverse beliefs, fostering a more compassionate and interconnected world.
Plus, if we can achieve this for Pagan Fiction, imagine the changes that will ripple outward across the world of literature with just that genre being added. Now imagine there being a paved way for other authors to follow suit. It’s not just about us; it’s about empowering authors everywhere to make the changes needed in the industry so it serves them better. That’s the vision for this movement.
We are looking for authors, publishers, and readers join us in a special group (details to follow) where we’ll collectively navigate this transformative journey with action and effort. Let’s not just talk about change; let’s be the change together.
